24 Week Pregnancy Blog

24 Week Pregnancy Blog (6 months!)

Written on May 16, 2016

How far along? 24 weeks 1 days

Baby: Oreo has gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts the baby at about 1.5 pounds and almost a foot long (about the size of an ear of corn!).  She cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but her body is filling out proportionally and will soon start to plump up. The brain is also growing quickly now, and taste buds are continuing to develop. The lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree", as well as, cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help her air sacs inflate once she hits the outside world. The skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

                                     24 Week Bump!

Total Weight Gain: I'm still at a 9 lb. weight gain this week (115 lbs.) and I'm very happy with that! I definitely felt like I did better with my portion control this week. While 9 lbs. isn't too much, I try to remind myself that everyone carries a baby differently and as long as she's healthy, it doesn't matter how much or how little I gain. I struggle finding the balance between not eating too much, but making sure I am eating enough.

Maternity Clothes: I'm still wearing my belly band will most pants and shorts, but also wearing more maternity dresses. Luckily, I still fit into all my regular clothes and I'm getting to the point where my bump looks cute in them! :)

Stretch Marks: I'm still doing fairly well at applying the stretch mark cream! Doing it at least once if not twice a day.
Sleep: I've been sleeping better for the most part. I still wake up 1-2 times a night and tend to get a snack, but I sleep hard while I'm sleeping. I've had a lot of energy during most days though and don't seem to be nearly as tired as I was during my first pregnancy. Or maybe I'm just used to it at this point because I have a toddler and tired is just a natural state ;) I did get a nap in yesterday, so that was a treat!

Miss Anything? Nothing in particular this week, I've had a good week! The hardest part of this pregnancy for me is not being able to pick up Grayson as often and in turn he goes to Josh any time he wants to be picked up or held. I hate that part, but it's not forever.

Best Moment of the Week: We visited our new home in Lizella this week, so that was exciting. I like the house and it was nice to get a visual as to where we will be living. Grayson was also baptized yesterday, so it was a special day. It was super chaotic with all of our family in town and Grayson being in a grumpy (understatement) mood for some of the day, but it ended with a big family lunch and a happy little boy which made everything worth it.

Movement: She is a dancing machine! This week, I got some really cool videos of her doing gymnastics in my belly. She moves all the time and the movements are getting bigger and stronger as the weeks go on. I love feeling her move and I'm so thankful that she is so active! I feel her all the time, while I'm walking around, and even while I'm asleep....she's wild already! ;)

Food Cravings: Still loving sweets! But no cravings in particular. I really have to watch myself and make sure I'm eating real food to balance out my sugar intake!

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope!

Gender: Girl! :) I was given more girl clothes this week and they are so adorable! I can't wait to dress her up!

Symptoms: For the most part, I am feeling good! I have experienced back pain this pregnancy which is different than my first pregnancy. If I am really active or even if I'm barely active, my back can start hurting and I have to sit down. My body does start hurting much more quickly while I'm trying to get things done which can be frustrating. I'm still trying to get as much water in my as possible since I'm always thirsty. I'm thankful to have such few complaints!

Just a small portion of her new wardrobe!

Happy or moody: Still feeling really stressed as we are living in a crazy time period...our family has so much going on right now!

Looking forward to: My specialist appointment is this week! I feel like I've waited forever (6 weeks) for it! I'm nervous, but excited to see the baby and see how things are progressing. I'm also in my final 2 weeks of work, so I'm looking forward to being done and staying home with Grayson!
