29 Week Pregnancy Blog

29 Week Pregnancy Blog

Written on June 23, 2016

Well, I'm officially in the 3rd trimester and getting closer and closer to meeting our baby girl! In some ways, this pregnancy has flown by, but at the same time, I feel like I've been pregnant forever! Between the complications I've had, having to chase a toddler around, and moving, time has just sped by. It's hard to believe we are getting close to welcoming this little girl into our lives! This week in particular was probably one of the craziest weeks of my pregnancy thus far. I am officially writing from a new location -- our new house in Lizella, GA! We moved since I last blogged and life has been extra crazy, but very exciting! So far, we are enjoying our new house, new church, and new town. I've spent most of the week unpacking and trying to get things organized. Next up, prepare for baby sister's arrival! It's so different the second time around...I feel like I've done nothing to prepare at all! But that's mostly because I already have almost everything I need from the last time around...Grayson is not even 18 months old yet, after all! ;) Here's a look at how things are going as we head into the home stretch of this pregnancy!

How far along? 29 weeks 4 days -- officially in the Third Trimester!

Baby: Baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (about the size of a butternut squash or a small cabbage) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. Her muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and the head is growing bigger to make room for the developing brain. This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in the baby's hardening skeleton each day.

                                  29 Week Bump!

Total Weight Gain: This week my weight gain is 13 lbs. (118-119). I'm still slowly gaining which I am happy about and I'm trying not to gorge myself through this last trimester. I'm able to stay much more active which really helps! A lot of people say I look small, but at the doctor last week my belly measured 27 weeks (I was 28 weeks 2 days). My doctor thought that was right on target (as long as it's within a few weeks range) and he was happy with how my belly was growing. At the specialist, they did confirm that baby girl is in fact on the small side. I just don't make big babies!

Maternity Clothes: I'm wearing more and more maternity outfits and loving how comfortable they are! I'm definitely filling the maternity shirts out a little better now. I'm also wearing regular clothes that used to be a little big and wearing some of my regular shorts with the belly band -- I love that thing! Things don't always fit perfectly because my tummy is bigger, but the rest of my body is regular sized. Thankfully summer pregnancies allow for lots of tank tops, t-shirts, and comfy shorts. Now that I'm not working, I can basically wear what I want and what fits well, so that's nice! I'm already slightly sick of the selection, but I will make do since the end isn't too far away!

Stretch Marks: Still applying either the stretch mark cream or tummy butter (thicker formula) twice a day! I'm determined to do my best with preventing stretch marks. Applying the cream seemed like such a pain last time around, but it really doesn't bother me this time. It feels good for my tummy to stay moisturized because it can get itchy if I don't keep up applying the cream. I also know that being disciplined for this short amount of time can prevent stretch marks that last a lifetime. I'm really not that into appearance, but no one likes stretch marks, so that's enough motivation for me! :) I didn't get any stretch marks during my last pregnancy, but it looks like I may have a few already from this pregnancy. Not thrilled about it, but oh well! I will continue using the cream until the end!
Sleep: Last week, I was dragging, but this week I've been able to nap a little which always helps. We have so much going on that I can't seem to relax my brain enough to sleep longer than necessary. I wake up every few hours throughout the night and am woken up bright and early by a toddler. :) Grayson also hasn't been sleeping through the night much since we have moved. I assume he's just adjusting and it will go back to normal soon, but it's tiring being up with him in the night. I haven't missed it at all! We also have stairs in our new house (master on the main), so that gives a whole new meaning to him waking up during the night. I'm much more used to being tired this time around, so it doesn't bother me as much. I am noticing I am waking up more on my back though, so I must change positions throughout the night. Sleeping on my belly or side isn't that comfortable. After days of sleeping horribly, I'll usually have one or two really good nights of sleep or take a good nap.

Miss Anything? I've been so much more active these past few weeks and I'm feeling really good! Feeling like myself and like I don't have as many limitations helps me not miss much at all! My body does tend to hurt if I push it too hard. While unpacking, I've had a few days where my back was killing me afterwards. But as long as I am active in moderation, I feel pretty good! I do have to watch my activity level more this time than I did last time because my body reacts more this time. But I honestly think it's because I'm MORE active this time around. It may not seem like it, but I spend most of the day chasing Grayson around and picking him up. I rarely sit for more than a few minutes as opposed to sitting all day at work and then on the commute to and from work. Last pregnancy, I did work out, but that was only 1 hour of activity. This time around, I'm not doing official "workouts", but I am honestly much more active. Which is why I think I feel more pain more often!

Best Moment of the Week: Like I said, we moved this week! We've had a good first week here and a good first Sunday at our new church. We've also had VBS this week which has worked out nicely. It's been nice to get acquainted with everyone and get familiar with the church right off the bat. We have felt very welcomed and loved by our new church already which really helps with the transition. We have also received some sweet mail at our new house from old church members that has been very encouraging when I'm feeling sad or lonely.

Movement: She still moves like crazy and I love it. She's always going and rarely keeps me guessing if she's okay because she never really stops. I can tell she is growing in there because her movements are slowing down some and I am able to identify more body parts! At my last appointment, they said she was breech, but last week, they said she has moved and is now head down! I could almost tell before the confirmation because her movements have changed and I can tell which body parts are which...so freaky, but amazing!

Food Cravings: Still loving sweets, salads, and coffee! We've been loving the fresh produce that our church members have been giving us. I've been eating a whole tomato chopped up with pepper and ranch dressing and that's hit the spot. I've also been eating a lot of cookies this week -- yum!

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope.

Gender: Girl! We have continued to get little bits of girl items from friends and family and I couldn't be more grateful. It's all so cute and pink and girly. Such a fun change! Next week, I am going to start washing her clothes and working on getting her room together more. So exciting! :)

Symptoms: Having more Braxton Hicks contractions (1-2 a day), sometimes the baby will sit on something and I get really uncomfortable but then the baby moves and I'm fine again, bending over has gotten a little harder but I can still do it as of now! Round ligament pain really only bothers me at night when my muscles have been at rest for a while. They get stiff and will hurt right when I first get out of bed. Also having back pain when I am overly active. I'm definitely feeling pregnant, but I am in the 3rd trimester after all! :) In all honesty, I still feel really good, so no complaints!

Happy or moody: All over the board!

Doctor's Appointments: Last week, I saw all 3 of my doctors! My regular OBGYN appointment went well and I now go back to them every 2 weeks. Can't believe it's already that time! I got my lab work done for my thyroid and found out that my levels were slightly high (hypo), so my doctor is lowering my dosage a little bit. Lastly, I had another visit at the specialist. This appointment was particularly stressful for a few reasons. Last time I went in (1 month ago), my hemorrhage was almost healed! While this is great news, they also noticed that the baby's head wasn't measuring correctly. There was a flat spot on her head and the measurements were just a little off. My doctor believed that this was due to the way the baby was positioned. He said the baby's brain looked great, but he wanted to recheck her head. Obviously, I spent the entire month in-between appointments trying not to stress, but still feeling really scared. We went in last week and they told us her head looked fine! Thank God for that! Unfortunately, there is now another developmental "issue" that they will be watching, so I will most likely be going to the specialist until the end of my pregnancy. Her belly was measuring small at this last appointment and her "head to belly" ratio was off. This could mean a bigger issue such as fetal growth restriction is going on, but nothing has been diagnosed yet. At every appointment, I have a detailed anatomy scan with very detailed measurements. Technology today is such a good and bad thing. While it's wonderful that I can see a doctor that can so closely monitor my baby's health, it's also scary when they continue to find small issues that wouldn't ever have been noticed in the past. Most of the issues naturally work themselves out, but of course the doctors are going to be cautious and continue to monitor me. I'm choosing to be thankful that if there really is an issue, the specialist will be able to deal with it in the best way possible instead of not knowing it exists until birth. I go back to the specialist again next week, so please keep us in your prayers! Overall, baby girl's health is just fine, but we will be closely watching her growth and development to make sure things go how they are supposed to. There could be a bigger issue at hand (worst case scenario is that she could end up being born early), but as of right now, nothing is official and her growth will just continue to be monitored. While it's been a very long and scary road, God has continued to watch over and protect our little girl's life. I have no doubt that He will continue to do just that until the time of delivery. I'm also very trusting of my doctors and completely trust that they are going to do whatever is best for me and my sweet girl!

Looking forward to: Our first mommy and me music class in Macon tomorrow morning and getting into a routine here in Lizella! There are so many changes and transitions going on right now, but I'm clinging onto God and His promises which never change and are always dependable. Excited for the future!

28 Week Pregnancy Blog

How far along? 28 weeks 3 days -- officially in the Third Trimester!

Baby: By this week, baby weighs 2 1/4 pounds - 2.5 pounds (about the size of a large eggplant) and measures 15-16 inches from the top of the head to the heels.
Oreo can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With the eyesight developing, baby may be able to see the light that filters in through my womb. Baby Gale is also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

28 Week Bump!

Total Weight Gain: This week my weight gain is between 12-13 lbs. (118-119). I'm still slowly gaining which I am happy about and I'm trying not to gorge myself through this last trimester. I'm able to stay much more active which really helps! A lot of people say I look small, but at the doctor this week my belly measured 27 weeks. Sleep: I've been dragging this week. We have so much going on that I can't seem to relax my brain enough to sleep longer than necessary. I wake up every few hours throughout the night and am woken up bright and early by a toddler. :) I also struggle to take naps because again, my mind is always racing and I just can't relax enough to actually fall asleep. I'm also used to being tired this time around, so it doesn't bother me as much. I am noticing I am waking up more on my back though, so I must change positions throughout the night. After days of sleeping horribly, I'll usually have one or two really good nights of sleep.

Miss Anything? I've been so much more active this week and I'm feeling really good! Feeling like myself and like I don't have as many limitations, helps me not miss much at all! Of course, the clothing situation could be a little better, but I know I don't have much longer left until I am back in my regular clothes and not searching for outfits to fit my growing belly.

Best Moment of the Week: We are moving this week! I can't exactly say it will be the best, but it's extremely monumental. One heart-warming moment this week was definitely our last day at our church. It was such a special day and we felt so loved. They had a reception for our family after church and we were overwhelmed with the love and support. We will miss our MVUMC family so much, but this definitely isn't goodbye! :)

Movement: She still moves like crazy and I love it. She's always going and rarely keeps me guessing if she's okay because she never really stops. I can tell she is growing in there because her movements are slowing down some and I am able to identify more body parts! It's crazy I can tell how she's positioned.

Food Cravings: Still loving sweets and salads! I had Greek food this week and that was also especially yummy!

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope.

Gender: Girl! We have continued to get little bits of girl items from friends and family and I couldn't be more grateful. It's all so cute and pink and girly. Such a fun change!

Symptoms: Having more Braxton Hicks contractions especially when I am on my feet for a long time, sometimes the baby will sit on something and I get really uncomfortable but then the baby moves and I'm fine again, bending over has gotten a little harder but I can still do it as of now! Round ligament pain really only bothers me at night when my muscles have been at rest for a while. They get stiff and will hurt right when I first get out of bed.

Happy or moody: All over the board!

Looking forward to: Getting Grayson and baby girl's rooms set up at our new house, our first Sunday at Lizella, and all the new adventures to come!

27 Week Pregnancy Blog

27 Week Pregnancy Blog (6 months!)

Written on June 10, 2016

How far along? 27 weeks 5 days

Baby: This week baby looks like a thinner, redder, more wrinkled version of what she will look like at birth, but in the next few weeks more fat will fill out her appearance. Baby's immune system is continuing to mature as are her lungs which are still practicing breathing amniotic fluid. Oreo is a little over 2 - 2.5 lbs. this week and 16 inches long (the size of a cucumber and head of cauliflower)!

                 27 Week Bump!

Total Weight Gain: I'm still fluctuating between 10-12 lbs. (116-118). I've been eating really healthy this week, so in proud of myself for that! Veggies and salads have been my jam!

Maternity Clothes: I'm wearing half maternity clothes and half regular clothes. Thankful for my belly band and bigger shirts that make wearing my regular clothes possible!

Stretch Marks: Still applying stretch mark cream 2x a day! No new stretch marks that I can see.
Sleep: I'm sleeping okay. I'm kinda up throughout the night unfortunately. Still snacking during the night and just waking frequently. I have to have a pillow under my belly and since I'm naturally a tummy sleeper, getting comfortable is a little more difficult. No napping unfortunately! Grayson has been getting up a lot earlier -- 7am, so I've been exhausted by the end of the day!
Getting in all my activity chasing after this guy!

Miss Anything? I've felt great this week! I've been much more active and have continued to feel good. I'm getting back to doing regular activities and picking Grayson up frequently. I love feeling like myself again!! So no, not really missing anything! :)

Movement: She still moves all the time which I am so thankful for! When I am really active, I get nervous that something will go wrong, but she continues to move nonetheless. Her head is still near my belly button and she loves to stick it straight in the air...so crazy looking! She seems to be happy despite all my extra movement.

Food Cravings: I've been eating a lot of salads this week! I'm liking veggies a lot more and still not very into fruit. I would rather have a real dessert! ;) I've been limited my sweets and that's been going well!

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope!

Best Moment of the Week: This was my first full week staying home with Grayson and it was jam-packed. We spent the week seeing friends and having play dates before our move. It's been great to be home with Grayson and be busy hanging out with friends and baby friends!

Gender: Girl! :)

Symptoms: Round ligament pain (it's been bad during the nights this week) and random Braxton Hicks (every few days).

Happy or moody: Happy!

Looking forward to: Our move next week! Definitely feeling bittersweet about it, but I'm ready to not live out of boxes and be able to settle in somewhere. I also see all 3 of my doctors next week, so I am excited and anxious for those appointments. Praying everything goes well with the regular OBGYN, thyroid doctor, and specialist!

26 Week Pregnancy Blog

26 Week Pregnancy Blog (6 months!)

Written on June 3, 2016

How far along? 26 weeks 5 days

BabyThe network of nerves in the baby's ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. She may now be able to hear both my voice and Josh's as we chat with each other. She is inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of the lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when she is born and takes that first gulp of air. And the baby is continuing to put on baby fat. Now weighing about 2 pounds and measures 14 inches (the size of an eggplant and length of a green onion) from head to heel.

                 26 Week Bump!

Total Weight Gain: The baby is definitely growing and I've gained 10-12 lbs. (116-118) as of this week. I can tell she's a lot bigger, so that makes me feel better about the weight gain. My weight is fluctuating a little bit depending on what I eat and time of day, but I'm trying hard to eat small meals every few hours, so I don't get that overly full feeling. She seems to be squishing my stomach because I won't eat much at all and then I feel stuffed.  I did pretty well this past week with eating. I really enjoyed the vegetarian dishes we made at the cooking class and finished those up this week. Trying so hard to eat healthy and limit the sweets! It's always been important to me to keep a healthy weight gain in pregnancy and not go crazy eating junk.

Maternity Clothes: I really popped this week! I'm starting to look and really feel pregnant. When packing for the beach, it took me a while to find clothes that fit me properly. I'm wearing a lot more maternity clothes and filling them out. I'm also wearing all my regular shorts with my belly band because I only have 2 pairs of maternity shorts. Thankfully, this is working right now and all my regular shorts are still options with the belly band. I wish they made smaller cut maternity clothes. I usually end up wearing my regular clothes and just make some adjustments because maternity clothes are just massive on me!

Stretch MarksStill being consistent about applying the stretch mark cream 1-2 times a day. I actually ran out of the regular stretch mark lotion, so I've been using the Palmer's Tummy Butter. It's super thick, but I'm growing a lot right now, so I trust it will help my skin stretch more easily. I don't see any new stretch marks, but there were one or two super small little marks on my belly from my last pregnancy, and those are becoming a little more obvious (at least to me) now that my belly is growing. My theory has always been to try to gain weight slowly and apply the stretch mark cream every day, and if I still get stretch marks, well then at least I know I did everything in my power to prevent them! Better than not trying at all and knowing they could have been prevented in my opinion :)

Sleep: I've been sleeping really good for the most part! Having a toddler actually gives me more energy in a lot of ways. I'm used to being active with him and used to running on not a lot of extra sleep, so I don't feel any more tired than usual. I've been more uncomfortable while sleeping this pregnancy and I need a pillow under my belly while I sleep. I'm exhausted by the end of each day, so I fall asleep immediately. I still wake-up throughout the night and sometimes get a snack :)

Miss Anything? I mostly just miss being able to do whatever I want and not having to worry about being too active. While at the beach this past week, I overdid it one day and I was in pain at the end of the day. I'm someone who likes to stay busy and active, so having to limit that is hard sometimes. Besides that, I love being pregnant. Yes, this pregnancy has been harder than my previous pregnancy (because that one was a breeze!), but I've still had an awesome experience! I love feeling her move all the time and seeing my bump grow. It's such a special time and I cherish every moment she's in my belly. I also feel good, so that helps!

Movement: She's still ridiculously active! She moves all night long and throughout the day. I can feel her different body parts and they are very distinct. Her head and feet in particular are easy for me to spot and feel. Movement is my favorite part of pregnancy and so entertaining! Josh and I love just sitting there watching her do crazy tricks in my belly. She is starting to get the hiccups too! Grayson got them all the time in my belly, so I was wondering if she would too.

Food Cravings: Sweets and coffee are still my jam! My work got me a cake on my last day and then sent me home with most of it. Big mistake! I ate WAY too much sugar for a few days! Still loving coffee, but I've found a lot of yummy decaf options that still hit the spot along with my one cup of half caff coffee each day. My favorite foods/snacks right now are probably string cheese, apples and peanut butter, gum, water with lemonade packets, and salads or veggies with ranch dressing.

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope!

Best Moment of the Week: We had a great time at the beach! Grayson had a blast -- he loves the ocean and playing with his cousins! I also completed my last week of work! It's an exciting and scary change, but I'm looking forward to being at home with Grayson and his sister!

Gender: Girl! :) We were given a bunch of Newborn size diapers this week and they are SO tiny! I forgot how small they were. I cannot believe Grayson used to fit in them and that our little girl will too. Getting excited about having a newborn again! :)

Symptoms: I've been feeling a lot better being more active, so that's awesome! I'm picking Grayson up more and doing a lot more in general -- it feels great! That being said, if I am overly active, my back or round ligament muscles may start hurting. I have to make myself sit down and take a break often just to recover from the activity. The baby also gets in different positions that can be painful. She will sit on a nerve, go super low, or head butt me in the pelvic bone. She's getting big enough that her movements or positioning can be painful! I've also started experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions!

Happy or moody: Probably moody ;)

Looking forward to: Enjoying the last 2 weeks in Woodstock and moving! Also, Josh is getting commissioned next Saturday, so that's a big accomplishment we are excited to celebrate!
